A new, interactive installation will be created over this month and next inside the Vashon Center for the Arts gallery and lobby. Vashon artist Elizabeth Conner and her team will reveal “big play, little mysteries” as the installation grows and morphs into new shapes.

“I was thinking about the building and how it is used,” said Conner, who has produced public arts projects throughout the U.S. “As a Vashon resident, I was thrilled to see the Farmers Market move into this space — bringing food, visual art and performance together. How things mix and collide can turn into something surprising and lovely.”

Conner is planning a number of surprises from spontaneous dancing to multi-media shows. For VCA Executive Director Susan Warner, the piece “is really a reflection of the VCA building and what it stands for in our community … both its place and function. We want to stimulate more conversation.”

Visitors are already adding their own components to the ever-shifting piece. February’s First Friday Gallery Cruise will include more improvisational performances, and islanders are encouraged to visit several times during the two-month run “to contribute, discuss and explore its morphing form.”
