Burton Inn owner/operator Deborah Kohler has placed the property — which includes both the inn and the home next door — up for sale.
“You know, I really thought that I’d be sitting on the porch here with my grey braids, shelling peas for the rest of my life,” she said. “But it looks like now it will have to be a different porch.”
Kohler cites poor health and her daughter’s impending relocation to Oregon as the reasons for the decision to sell the inn, which she purchased just over a year ago, in October 2016.
“I came here from California to be close to my family … my grandchildren,” she acknowledged. “But, they have an opportunity, and I want to stay close to them.”
Stating the she doesn’t believe anything significant, such as a sale, will happen before the spring, Kohler said that business has been good at the re-vamped Burton destination.
“Everything will continue as usual for now,” she said.
Noting that the inn’s restaurant, Lucy’s Table, has a “very talented, amazing” new manager and chef in Dominic Reeves, Kohler said that he will likely be given the option of a long-term lease.
“The new menu is so thoughtful. No one should be concerned about the continued operation of the restaurant,” she added.
Kohler reflected on the fact that bringing the property back to life has been both fun and a labor of love for her.
“It has been an extraordinarily gratifying experience,” she said.
The property is listed at $975,000.
