Between one-half inch and 1 inch of snow fell in Vashon town and in higher elevation areas on Sunday afternoon while the north end and areas on the water received none. The noticeable snowfall came after a light dusting of snow also fell on Friday.
National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters did not have snowfall totals specific to Vashon Monday, but said most of the Puget Sound area saw no more than an inch of snow in higher elevation areas. The snowfall was one of the earliest in four decades. Many news outlets reported Friday’s flurries brought the second-earliest recorded snowfall to the Seattle area. The reigning record still belongs to the year 1971, when 2 inches fell at the airport on Oct. 27. The cold temperatures of the past few days were also rare. The Seattle Times Sunday reported that the Seattle area recorded a high of just 41 degrees on Saturday, which is the area’s coldest day in the first week of November in 44 years.
Temperatures are expected to remain low throughout the week with highs in the high 40s to low 50s and plenty of rain, but no more snow.
