Saturday marked the first Vashon Farmers Market of the 2016 season and in addition to the regular farmers, and vendors, a special guest was present: Noodle the Sheep.

Noodle is the first of this year’s unofficial mayor candidates and is running on behalf of Vashon Youth & Family Services (VYFS). A sheep at Joe and Celina Yarkin’s Sun Island farm, Noodle rose to fame after his appearance on an episode of the HGTV show “Island Life.” He is also known locally for his heroism, as seen in a video posted on the VYFS website.

As part of his campaign, he will make appearances at the market, the Sheepdog Classic and other island events. VYFS’ Laura Rollins said the organization strongly endorses Noodle, believing that he typifies values held dear by all islanders: individuality, strength, loyalty, courage and spirit.

“He is calm in the face of a windstorm and cool under the pressure of shearing,” Rollins wrote in a statement.

Islanders can cast votes for Noodle for $1, with all proceeds benefitting VYFS. Ballot boxes can be found at local businesses and the market.
