Theodore Clemett Mehringer Jr

August 15 1934 — April 23 2017

Theodore Clemett Mehringer Jr. (age 82) passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Vashon Community Care Center, after an extended illness.

He was born in Larnard, Kansas, and raised in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he went to school and worked on the family farm. Besides his parents Mary Etta (deceased), and Theodore Clemett Mehringer Sr. (deceased), he had four sisters and four brothers. Ted was the eldest of the boys. After he graduated, he worked for Climax Uranium Mine as a skidder operator, shuttle car and truck driver, at the same time he joined the Army National Guard reserves 1952 to 1958. When he left the service he relocated in San Jose, California.

Ted started his own residential cleaning service and found out it wasn’t his cup of tea. He went to work for International Paper Company. That’s where he met his wife Frances Middling (Snooks). They got married in San Jose, California, November 3rd, 1962. They had a son James and daughter Terri.

He then went to work for Alloyed Wire Belt Company for a short time. That’s when the family decided to move to Vashon Island, Washington, in 1966. Ted worked at Lockheed in Seattle. Ted had his name on a list to work for K2. He got a call from K2 to come to work and had been there for 39 years when he retired.

He and his son James really enjoyed restoring the 1940 FORD Coupe Ted called Betsy. They took in lots of car shows. Ted taught his granddaughter, Rebecca (Becky) how to work on cars. His theory was if you’re going to drive a vehicle then you better know how to fix it.

Ted also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, family and friends gatherings. He enjoyed life in general.

Survivors are wife Frances (Snooks), son James and daughter Terri and Mike Weed, granddaughter Rebecca (Becky), great-grandson Ralph (Rj) Miles and great-granddaughter Nara Miles, as well as, the Mehringer and Middling families.

Funeral services will be held at the Vashon Sportsmen’s Club 19720 Singer Rd SW, May 13th at 2:00pm. Come join the family with a potluck and share pictures and lots of memories.

In addition, there will be a celebration of life for Ted Mehringer June 10th at noon at the Chuck Hearst house, 19820 Vashon Hwy SW. Come join us, friends, classic car, bbq-potluck and lots of fun. There will be a military salute in honor of Ted.
