Bonnie L. Brownell, 91, died April 13, 2017, at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg, Indiana. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph Brownell and Roxanne (Hatton) Leary, sisters Jo Ann Meyer and Mary Bolinger, and one brother Robert Brownell.
Bonnie was a graduate of Lowell High School (IN) and Ball State University with a Masters in Education in 1954. She was an educator, working in the public school system in San Bernardino, CA, until her retirement in 1985.
She was Captain of the San Bernardino Women’s Police Reserves and a member of the pistol team, winning several awards for her marksmanship. She also served as President of the San Bernardino Business & Professional Association.
Bonnie had a great love of life, laughter, her 1966 red Dodge Coronet convertible, and her home at Spring Beach on Vashon Island, WA. She was a lifelong member of the Sierra Club, having climbed 138 mountain peaks over 5,000 feet, including a climb to the top of Mt. Rainier near Seattle, WA.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment of ashes at the Plum Grove Cemetery in Lowell, Indiana.
