Bartolomeo Petriello

October 12, 1920 to July 18, 2010

Born in Cassano Irpino, Avellino Italy, Bartolomeo, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 89. He was the 5th of seven children and the last of his surviving brothers and sisters.

After completing his education, Bartolomeo apprenticed in his chosen art of custom tailoring. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Italian army during WWII. He spent six years in the army, three of which were spent in North Africa as a U.S. prisoner of war. He married his wife of 63 years, Mariannina Mongiello on September 18th, 1947. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and settled in New Jersey, later followed by his wife and three children.

A long time custom tailor, he enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to opera and classical music, soccer, gardening, and keeping up with current events. He moved to Vashon three years ago to be closer to his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mariannina, sons Salvatore (Rebecca) Petriello of Edmonds, WA and Donato (Lynne) Petriello of Cobble Hill, B.C, daughter MaryAnn (Warren) Beardsley of Vashon, WA., 10 grandchildren (including Christopher and Brett Beardsley of Vashon) and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved sons Michael and Joseph.

Funeral services were held on Saturday July 24th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Vashon Island. Memorial donations can be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or to the Vashon Health Center.
