Bent Blichfeldt of Dockton, Washington lost his courageous battle with cancer at home on October 24, 2009 with his family gathered at his bedside. Bent was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, attended Ordrop Gymnasium and Polytechnic Institute of Denmark. Dr. Blichfeldt taught structural engineering at the Polytechnic Institute; later worked for Volvo in Koping, Sweden as an industrial engineer. Bent came to the US with his family in 1966, became a US citizen in January 1972 and worked for Boeing as a structural engineer until his retirement in March 1999.
Bent was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed camping and hiking with his family; extended boating trips to Alaska and Canada and most recently spent four months, with his wife Marie, touring in their RV, hiking and birding in Alaska.
Bent was an early member of the Boeing Seahorses (a scuba club), past Commodore of the Quartermaster Yacht Club, a member of the Vashon Maury Audubon Society, Vashon Maury Land Trust and the Sierra Club.
Bent is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marie (Toodie), his daughter Marie L. Browne Kindred (Troy), Vashon, Nina Lau, Bradford, PA, Ulla Blichfeldt Fox (David Cooper), Vashon, six grandchildren, sister Ulla Pade, Copenhagen, DK and his former wife Lisbet Sell Schaefer (Walt), Renton, WA. Stepchildren Don Cornett (Sara), Whidbey Island, WA. Rene Heath (Doug), Raymond, WA. and Cindy Sheehan (Mark), Seattle. Seven step grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A large loving extended family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10 am at the Island Funeral Service Chapel.
