Marion Long Robbins, 88, passed away peacefully at the Franke Tobey Jones care facility in Tacoma on October 4, 2015. Marion was born in Seattle to Marion and Joe Long on May 18, 1927. The family soon moved to Tacoma where they owned and operated Atlas Foundry from 1929 to 1975. They spent their summers on Vashon Island above the beach at Burton. Marion was first married to Bill Brasier and they had three sons: Kim, Ladd and Shawn. Though they lived in Tacoma, they continued the family tradition of summering on Vashon. After her divorce from Bill Brasier, she married Ron Robbins in 1967 and eventually they moved permanently to Vashon. Marion and Ron enjoyed traveling, skiing in Sun Valley, and being with their many friends. They were great animal lovers, having welcomed several dogs and two parrots into their home. Marion was an avid rower and helped develop the award-winning Vashon Island Rowing Club. She and her rowing friends travelled and competed together for years and when Marion stopped rowing, those friendships continued.
Marion was preceded in death by two of her sons, Ladd and Shawn Braiser, and her husband Ron Robbins. She is survived by her son Kim Braiser and his children Kaitlin Braiser-Murray and Marion “Courtenay” Braiser; her stepchildren Sue Kimbel(Roy), John Robbins(Yvonne), Paul Robbins(Beckie), Ann Bowlby(Dennis); four Robbins grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her nephew Tom Long (Margy) who attended to her affairs after Ron Robbins died.
Her family extends a special thank you to the wonderful Vashon caregivers who looked after her in her declining years and also to the staff in the memory care unit at Franke Tobey Jones.
There will be a celebration of Marion’s life on Sunday, November 15th from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Tacoma Yacht Club. Donations in Marion’s memory can be made to the Vashon Island Rowing Club, PO Box 79, Vashon WA 98070 and to the Vashon Community Care Center, 15333 Vashon Highway, Vashon WA 98070, where Marion’s surviving son, Kim, is a resident.
