Carolyn “Carol” Hammermeister of Vashon Island and Puyallup died Dec. 31, 2004, at Sunshine Care in Seattle. She was 89 years old.

She was born in 1915 near Hastings, Neb., to Mabel and Guy Kress. In 1938 she married Edward Hammermeister in the Philip-pines. He died in 1992.

Mrs. Hammermeister was a homemaker as well as an assistant in her husband’s business, Sound Battery Co. They moved to Vashon Island in 1981, and there she pursued her favorite activities — gardening and antiquing.

Survivors include all eight of her children — Karl Hammermeister,Helen Winterstein, Jay Hammermeister, Dale Hammermeister, Koko Hammermeister, Anne Winter, Beth Hammermeister, and Jon Hammermeister — sister Dorothy Kuper and brother Don Kress.
