Lauretta Gibbs O’Shea was born July 19, 1922, in Yakima, Washington. She was the youngest of six children. In 1929, she moved from Yakima to Moscow Idaho where she and her siblings began attending The University of Idaho. She graduated in 1944 from the University with a degree in Commercial Education. After graduation she moved to Portland, Oregon working as a receptionist and secretary for the McCormick Piling and Lumber Company.
After the war she moved to Spokane, Washington to work for a local physician group. In 1948 she relocated to Richland, Washington as an executive secretary for the Hanford government project. There she met an engineer, Al O’Shea, whom she later married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moscow, Idaho in 1952.
While raising three children in their home in Kennewick, Washington, Lauretta also substitute taught, helped manage Al’s construction business and became the bookstore manager of Columbia Basin College. Lauretta enjoyed the art of cooking winning numerous local and national awards, quilting and collecting antiques.
She retired in Kennewick where she enjoyed her home and further travels to the British Isles, Europe, Australia and Fiji.
To be closer to family, in 2003 she moved to Seattle and later Vashon Island.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, Al O’Shea.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Tom Langland of Vashon; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jan O’Shea of Portland; daughter and son-in-law Katie and Paul Dolejsi, of Seattle; a sister, Bede Bartholet of Spokane, Washington and nine grandchildren.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday, August 23rd at Island Funeral Home,18005 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon, Washington.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 24th, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 16100 15th Ave SW, Vashon, Washington.
Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 25th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, Washington.
