Joan Huber

Joan Crawford Olney Huber died Oct. 22, 2009, in Ocean Park, Wash. She was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Seattle, to Jesse G. and Margaret A. (Rowe) Crawford.

Joan and Ed Olney moved to Vashon in 1958, where they raised their four daughters. She volunteered countless hours in Campfire, service organizations and the schools.

“My entire life has been spent creating and improving opportunities for children and adults,” Huber once said.

In 1977, she married Ron Huber, director of Camp Burton. There, she started a camp for disabled children,

then a camp for adults. Those programs continue

at Camp Burton as New Ho-

rizons and Camp Parkview.

In 1990, the couple moved to Ocean Park. Huber began work for Ocean Park Camp and became involved in Camp Victory, for girls who have been sexually assaulted. In 2009, Camp Victory established the Joan Huber “Grandma Lions” Fund.

She is survived by her husband Ron Huber of Ocean Park; daughters Jannine Babington of Kent, Janette and Scott Walker of Stanwood, and Jennifer and Josh Beaman of Vancouver; stepchildren Kathy Huber of Seattle and Russell Huber of Vashon Island; sister Jean Ray of Kent; eight beloved grandchildren Jamen, Dus-tin, Mitchell, Josie, Nathan, Bailey, Molly and Tanner; numerous nieces, nephews, greatnieces and nephews and friends. Joan was preceded in death by daughter Janelle Marie Olney.
