Longtime Islander Sylvia Gregg died Nov. 15, 2008, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Gregg was born on Oct. 11, 1943, in Spokane. She married John in 1962 and moved to Vashon, where she raised her children Sherry and Karl.

Gregg worked at the Vashon Health Center for 33 years.

She cherished her grandchildren Cameron, Michael, Alexis and Elliott. She was an avid reader and knitter, and she enjoyed her dogs and cats.

Gregg faced many illnesses over 35 years with bravery and hope. Even in her last battle with cancer, she was positive, happy and maintained her sense of humor, family members note.
