Born in Montana to Jonette and Hilmar Hartvigsen. The family moved from Great Falls to Vashon Island in 1926 where Arnold attended schools and graduated from high school in 1939. He attended business school in Seattle and was employed by the U.S. Engineer Department on projects in Washington and Alaska. Upon his return to
Seattle, Arnold married Claire Soike on Vashon April 25, 1942.
Arnold was employed by Pan American Airways in Seattle in 1943. He was transferred to San Francisco in 1945 until returning to Seattle in 1949 where he worked in the motor freight industry until 1965. Then Arnold was fortunate to be employed by the Port of Tacoma until his retirement in 1985.
Claire and Arnold were blessed with births of son Donald in 1943 and daughter Sylvia in 1955.
Claire and Arnold were members of churches in Seattle, Lakewood and Tacoma, most recently University Place Presbyterian Church.
Arnold had been a member of Tacoma Rotary No. 23, The American Association of Accountants, The Institute of Internal Auditors and Mt. Rainier Lions Club of Ashford.
Claire preceded Arnold in death in May 19, 2003, following 61 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold.
Claire and Arnold are survived by son, Donald and his wife Dianna, of Spokane, daughter, Sylvia and her husband David Storaasli, Tacoma, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A family graveside service will be held at Vashon Island Cemetery. Contact family for information.
