Donna Mae Hafer May LeBaron
February 28, 1932 ~ February 25, 2016
Donna passed away the morning of February 25, 2016, with her devoted daughter Lisa by her side. She was born to George and Jessie Hafer in Addy, Washington, on February 28, 1932.
Donna attended school in Chewelah, Washington, and graduated in 1950. After high school she married her high school sweetheart, Karl May Jr., and they moved to Palo Alto, California, where Karl attended Stanford, and their first child was born. After college they moved to Seattle where Karl continued his medical training and the family grew, finally having four daughters and a son.
Donna was a very special homemaker and mom. The house was always full of children, music, incredible food and laughter. Donna would pack up the old station wagon and take the kids camping in the summer and skiing in the winter. She was always up for a board game and taught many of the neighborhood kids how to play hearts and bridge.
Donna and Karl eventually parted and she moved to Vashon Island to help care for her daughter Janet who was paralyzed in a horse riding accident. While on Vashon, she met and married Bill LeBaron and went back to school for her nursing degree. Donna then worked at Vashon Community Care Center until her retirement.
After her retirement, Donna moved back to the family farm in Chewelah. She worked her magic on an old house on the property and turned it into a lovely home for her retirement. She loved her view of the valley so much that she never wanted to leave.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Karl, and her daughter Janet May. She is survived by her brothers Glen (Marie), Cary (Gailanne), Rodney (April), daughters Marie Bradley (Michael), Julianne Farmer (Dan), Lisa McCoy (Tristan) and son Karl May lll (Jennifer). She also leaves grandchildren Anna Marie, Erin May, Will, Cord and Marshall McCoy, Chloe Cook, Joseph and Emma May. Donna had also loved, and considered her own, many step-children and nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by all of us who loved her.
