Well, it’s that time of year once more. School is back in session, and all the big yellow buses are out on the road again.
So as a school bus driver, I would like to remind everyone to remember that when you see a school bus with its yellow or red lights on, it usually means that there are children present. I would like to also remind everyone that when you come upon a school bus with red lights and the stop paddle out, it means STOP.
We have been in school since Sept. 1, with 15 actual driving days. In those 15 days, I have personally had cars go through my stop paddle while I was loading or unloading students four times already. I pick up on the main highway through town, and I experience impatient people every day.
Please, if you are in a hurry for a ferry, leave a little earlier so you’re not so rushed.
Remember: We are transporting precious cargo. My children, your children, your neighbors’ children. Let’s keep them safe.
