Ian McFeron will bring his band to the Island to play a show at the Red Bicycle Bistro at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2.

There is a $5 cover charge, which will include a set by opening act Deadwood Revival.

Gene Stout, music critic for The Seattle Post-Intelligencier, wrote that the Ian McFeron band “plays an earthy yet sophisticated blend of folk, rock, alternative country and blues that belies the band’s youthfulness.”

McFeron, a songwriter, guitarist, vocalist and piano player, has released four albums, including 2007’s “Let It Ride.”

The album’s release was celebrated with back-to-back shows at the Triple Door in Seattle, both of which sold out in advance.

At the Red Bicycle, McFeron will be joined by band members Alisa Milner on Texas fiddle, Jon Markel on basss, and Mark Bateman on drums.

The show will also give audiences a chance to learn more about the band’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Eager to bring their music to listeners across the United States, the band has doubled its touring base every year since its formation in 2003. This ambitious drive to achieve nationwide recognition has brought adventure and artistic gratification, but it has not come without its costs.

On their most recent tour, the band burned more than 1,000 gallons of diesel and spent more than $4,000 on fuel. Eager to save costs as well as limit its carbon footprint, the band has begun raising funds to hire Frybrid, a Seattle-based alternative fuel company, to outfit their 35’ diesel tour bus with a heated fuel tank, fuel lines, and fuel injectors that will allow it to run on straight vegetable oil.

At their show on Red Bicycle, the band will have literature describing their plans and how fans can contribute and help them becoming carbon neutral.
