Thanks to The Beachcomber and Voice of Vashon (VoV) for hosting the fire commissioner debate last Thursday.
Joe Ulatoski’s call for VIFR to create a plan for the future — transitioning from a reactive to a proactive posture — is vital, so it is mystifying that the incumbents downplay the value of such a plan. (See the debate video at www.VoiceOfVashon.org, 36:15 minutes in for this.)
As critical, though, is to recognize Joe’s unique skill in inspiring volunteers. In VIFR’s unique role as a combination volunteer and staffed organization, Joe’s vitality and experience motivating volunteers will be essential!
If you are aware of Joe’s leadership in founding VashonBePrepared and the Neighborhood Emergency Response Organization (NERO) and new Business NERO programs, you know there is no better volunteer organizer. In addition to his winning personality, tireless dedication and smile, Joe has a clear, intelligent and inspired message for volunteers.
To wit, only Joe actually recruited volunteers for VIFR at the debate. Rather than just talk about it, Joe embodies the spirit of volunteerism.
Joe’s done much for VashonBePrepared; it’ll be great to see his energies working for VIFR.
