Bob’s Bakery will collect gently used soccer cleats of all sizes to be donated to soccer players in Haiti.
Jill Beytebiere, who owns the bakery with Vashon High School soccer coach Paul Beytebiere, said the cleats are desperately needed in the poor country, which is still recovering from the earthquake that occurred there last year.
The cleats, she said, will be delivered to European Disaster Volunteers in Haiti, where Islander Michaela Beytebiere currently volunteers. They will allow more Haitian children to participate in soccer programs there.
“It’s a really good outlet and helps the young kids have something positive to do rather than join gangs,” she said.
Cleats can be dropped off at Bob’s Bakery until June 10. The bakery is also accepting cash donations to go toward the purchase of new cleats and soccer balls.
