The rhythms of Afro-Cuban music will be heard at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, when the Seattle-based band Picoso takes the stage at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi.

Picoso draws its inspiration from salsa, son and cha-cha music.

“The urban Latin flavor in Seattle is championed by Picoso. They are not afraid to stretch beyond what is comfortably known as Latin or world music. The vibe is very urban and very street, without losing the relationship to the ancestor sound,” said world music guru Darek Mazzone, host of “Wo’ Pop” on KEXP radio.

Since the band’s formation in 2004, Picoso has appeared in Seattle at The Triple Door, Nectar, The Tractor Tavern, LoFi and many other venues. The band has also been featured live on KEXP radio as well as KBCS’s Latin music show, Sabor.

Pete Welch, concert promoter, said that the band’s music is perfect for dancing.

The band 2Me will open for Picoso. This well-traveled duo has played night clubs from Seattle to Savannah, Boston to San Diego, and watering holes and back porches everywhere in between from Little Rock, to Kansas City, to Chicago, to Austin, and back. The group makes a tradition of inviting strangers on stage to sit in on washboard, fiddle, kazoo, bass, flute, trumpet, harmonica and just about anything else that makes music.
