Two high-profile Vash-on artists — one, a painter, the other, a guitarist — will join forces at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4, for an unusual collaborative event, “Brush Strokes,” at the Open Space for Arts & Community.

Pam Ingalls, an oil painter perhaps best known for her pieces that line The Hardware Store Restaurant’s walls, will be joined onstage by Daryl Redeker, a singer, songwriter and teacher who has wowed Islanders with his musicianship for many years.

The two will discuss their work and creative process with the audience, and Redeker will play a piece, “Acacia Tree,” that he wrote based on one of Ingalls’ paintings. He’ll play another song, “A Private World of Smiles,” that inspired Ingalls to create a portrait of Paul Colwell, a well-known Island musician. 

Then, the duo will reach into a fishbowl to choose the name of a lucky audience volunteer, who will be asked to come onstage and sit for a portrait by Ingalls, created on the spot. While Ingalls paints, Redeker will compose music inspired by the sitter.

Ingalls said she was looking forward to “Brush Strokes,” even though the event seems filled with unknowns.

“It’s a little risky to paint a portrait in front of an audience in such a short time, but the audience’s energy will be part of the process for this painting and musical composition,” she said. “It’s interesting to see form emerge from nothing, both in music and painting. I think it will be a wonderful experience for all of us.”

Tickets to “Brush Strokes,” $12, are on sale at brownpapertickets.com and Island book stores and will also be sold at the door. Copies of Redeker’s new CD “Acacia” will also be on sale at the event.
