By the end of this week, java brewed by the Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie will be sold on the Washington State Ferry run serving Vashon’s north end.

The small, independent roaster just received news that its hand-crafted blends will be sold on the so-called triangle route, serving Vashon, Southworth and Fauntleroy. It replaces Tully’s Coffee, which will continue to be sold on the state ferry system’s other routes.

“This is an exciting development for our company,” said Mary Kay Rauma, director of sales and marketing for the roasterie.  “I’ve been working on this deal for over two years with the company that has the food service contract, CDX Corporation.”

The roasterie also announced that Full Circle, one of the largest organic companies in the region, will begin distributing the roasterie’s beans as part of its popular farm-to-table service.

“We look for high-quality local artisan producers to partner with in all the markets we serve,” Alexis Allen, vice president for products and services at Full Circle, said in a news release. “Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie hits all of our criteria.”

Meanwhile, the roasterie — located in a historic building at the corner of Vashon Highway and Cemetery Road — will soon extend its hours. Beginning July 1, it will  keep its doors open one hour later — or until 6 p.m. — Mondays through Thursdays. It will remain open until 7 pm. on Fridays. Its Saturday and Sunday hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. respectively, will remain the same.
