Anyone with information about the woman is urged to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 296-3311.

The woman was discovered by islander Mark Ripley who was out rowing Friday afternoon and saw the body about 200 yards off shore at about 1:30 p.m. He had been watching for potential hazards, he said, and saw what he thought was a black jacket. He rowed closer and determined it was a body. He said he then rowed to the shore of Manzanita Beach and alerted people there, who called 911.

Vashon Island Fire & Rescue responded to the call and determined the woman was dead.

The deputy at the scene said it appeared the woman had been dead for six to 12 hours.

As of Tuesday morning, she had not been identified.
