Vote for the candidate with the values closest to those you support

I want to thank Ivan Weiss for his response ("There is one important message that a vote for Clinton sends," Sept. 28) to the op-ed article by Steve Graham, Betty Capehart and Richard Paulis previously included in The Beachcomber ("Make your vote count: Choose the greater good, not the lesser evil," Sept. 21).

I want to thank Ivan Weiss for his response (“There is one important message that a vote for Clinton sends,” Sept. 28) to the op-ed article by Steve Graham, Betty Capehart and Richard Paulis previously included in The Beachcomber (“Make your vote count: Choose the greater good, not the lesser evil,” Sept. 21).

As a Green who frequently votes for Democrats, I was a supporter of Bernie Sanders and am happy to know that Ivan also backed Bernie. If you support Bernie’s values, the question is: Where do you do the most good? Voting for Hillary Clinton or Jill Stein? Are Hillary’s values better that Jill’s? Then definitely vote Hillary. However, if you think Jill’s values are closer to Bernie’s, then why not vote to continue the revolution? In a blue state that will provide 12 electors to Hillary no matter how you vote, support Bernie’s values to pressure the Democratic Party from the left rather than support the status quo from the right of Bernie.

Ivan recommended reading the August Washington Post article, “A transcript of Jill Stein’s meeting with the Washington Post editorial board” (tinyurl.com/guzo3vh) to assess Jill’s qualifications to be president. I say read the article to assess Jill’s values and watch Jill Stein’s videos on democracynow.org.

Finally, the problem of spoiler votes would become moot in the future if we all get behind Instant Runoff Voting; find out about it here: fairvote.org/rcv#rcvbenefits.
