Kathy Larsdotter, a long-time Vashon potter, will exhibit her new paintings titled, “I See Home: Images from Vashon Island and Washington State,” at Café Luna.

Raven’s Nest will display the jewelry creations gallery co-owner Sue Shotridge has been busily preparing.

Jesse Johnson’s print portraits of famous authors will be held over this month at Hinge Gallery. On Memorial Day, Johnson revealed a mural of Chilean poet and diplomat Pablo Neruda painted on the south side of the La Playa restaurant. The mural was painted using 22,000 words.

Paintings by Janice Wall will be featured at Heron’s Nest. Wall is an island pastel artist, who also works with multiple other mediums to create semi-abstract works.

SAW will feature Susan Lorraine Meier’s hand-crafted jewelry inspired by the raw nature of the Pacific Northwest.

Stephen Malshuk’s striking photographs will be on display at The Hardware Store Restaurant.

Nina Vladimirovna’s needlework will be on display at Hastings-Cone Gallery.

Beeswax art from 35 different artists, including students from Ray Pfortner’s Artists in Schools classes at McMurray Middle School, adult students from the spring session of Vashon Center for the Arts’ Photo Transfers into Beeswax class and Pfortner’s own pieces, will be on display at Two Wall Gallery.

VALISE Gallery will exhibit 2D and 3D portrait work by members of the VALISE collective.

The five islanders who make up local band Listen in the Kitchen will bring their tight harmonies, rowdy humor and tales of questionable behavior to Vashon Bookshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Vashon Intuitive Arts will exhibit a collection of Alexis St. John’s mixed media works, titled “Remembrances of Childhood.”

The woodwork of well-known islander Marshall Sohl will be on display at the Vashon Senior Center. Sohl’s daughters, Faith and Emma, will answer questions about their father at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

VCA Koch Gallery will display Chris Maynard’s carved feathers and Warren Pope’s canvas-wire-sculpture works. Maynard, an Olympia artist who creates intricate art by carving feathers, will lead a talk, “Feathers, Form and Function” at 5:30 p.m. Pope’s work consists of canvas stretched over wood in abstract shapes inspired by nature.

Voice of Vashon will host “First Friday LIVE on the Highway” from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Storefront Studio between Zombiez and Glass Bottle Creamery. The program will feature live artist interviews from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by live musical performances from 7 to 9 p.m.
