The Pirate track team sent three athletes to compete in the state championship track and field meet, held at Woodward Field at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Each put in a strong showing, with two earning medals.
In his first ever state appearance in track, junior Tyler Stoffer came home with a seventh-place medal from the 110-meter high hurdles.

He also competed in the high jump, tying for seventh place with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches. After a tiebreaker, Stoffer ended in ninth place finish overall.
Junior James Spencer just missed the finals by one place in the 400-meter dash. He clocked a 51.98 in the prelims.
The lone senior representing Vashon High School at the state meet was Kate Straube. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in 17.6 seconds in the prelims, also missing the finals.
